You will learn to understand the relationships between plants and the soil and its microinhabitants in order to create the conditions in your soil that will allow whatever you are growing to reach its full genetic potential. As well, we will look at what is going on in the soil when weeds, pests and diseases start to become an issue. You will learn about which soil tests to use and which labs to send them to, as well as DIY tests you can do yourself to assess growing conditions. We will talk about the amendments and inputs to use and when and how to use them. You will be sent home with a jar of Aerated Compost Tea to experiment with, as well as a sample fertility program to help you on your way to optimal soil.
